A day before the government's crucial 11th round of talks with protesting farmers, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday night met senior BJP leader and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday said he had full faith that the BJP government at the Centre led by PM Narendra Modi will provide a home to every citizen of the country by August 15, 2022.

One of the founding members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bengal minister Madan Mitra in an exclusive conversation with India TV said that he will chop off his hands if Mamata Banerjee loses in the state assembly election, scheduled to take place this year.

Since coming to power, the Modi government had increased the budget for the farm sector and also the minimum support price on various crops, Amit Shah said.

On day one of his trip on Saturday, the Union Minister laid the foundation stone of the Bhadravathi Rapid Action Force Centre in Shivamogga, Karnataka.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday offered prayers at famous Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati. Shah was accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal and State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Shah is on a three-day visit to the Northeast and reached Guwahati on Saturday morning.

​With the government open to debate points of contention in the new agricultural reforms, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday emphasised on having a dialogue with the farmers, urging them to discuss their issues.

After attending the series of government and party programs in Assam, Shah on Sunday would visit Manipur and before leaving Imphal he would lay the foundation stone for the Churachandpur Medical College and meet the civil society leaders.

Amit Shah said if farmer organisations felt that any provision of the three new farm laws was against their interests, the Modi government was ready to discuss and consider it with an open mind.

Shah attended Kisan Samman Nidhi event and also listened to Prime Minister Modi's video interaction with farmers from several states, along with other BJP leaders at a Gaushala in Kishangarh village.  

Mamata has been issuing strong remarks against the Centre ever since Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his two-day Bengal visit, criticised the Trinamool government severely over various issues.

Born in 1902 in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, Chaudhary Charan Singh championed the farmers' cause and is credited with shaping several policies that helped them. He died in 1987.

During a press conference in Kolkata, Mamata offered a point-by-point rebuttal to Amit Shah's charge to stress that Bengal has progressed well  under the Trinamool Congress regime. 

Ahead of Assembly elections in West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit the state every month and stay there for a week during each visit. Shah's next visit to West Bengal is likely on January 12 next year, said a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) source, requesting anonymity.

Mamata announced that she will visit the Birbhum district on December 28 for an official meeting, and also lead a roadshow the next day.

Rules for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act are yet to be framed because of the pandemic situation and the matter will be considered once the COVID-19 vaccination starts and the corona chain breaks, Amit Shah said.
